Molchat Doma - Monument

Монумент (Monument) feels heavier and more deliberate, as if Molchat Doma slowed everything down to let the weight settle.

Released in 2020, the album builds on the stark coldwave foundation of Этажи but shifts the focus inward. The songs feel less like observations of the outside world and more like internal monologues, shaped by tension, fatigue, and emotional compression. There is a greater sense of control here, with fewer sharp edges and a deeper, more oppressive calm.

Basslines move with measured insistence, drum machines remain rigid and restrained, and synths hang low and unresolved. Guitars surface sparingly, adding texture rather than momentum. Vocals stay distant and composed, reinforcing the album’s sense of endurance and emotional containment.

Monument does not reach outward or seek release. It stands still, solid and immovable, capturing Molchat Doma at their most introspective and sealed off. A record that rewards patience and quiet attention, revealing its weight slowly rather than all at once.
