Shipping & Returns
How long does shipping usually take?
We usually ship your order within 24 hours of payment clearing. We’re vinyl fans too, and we know how it feels to wait.
What are the different shipping methods available?
All orders ship from our HQ in North Carolina using trusted carriers: USPS, UPS, and FedEx.
Economy Mail
This tier uses USPS Media Mail, ideal for vinyl records and media.
Estimated delivery: 2–8 business days, depending on your location.
Express Mail
Need it faster? Our Express option delivers in 1–3 business days via the fastest available carrier from Greycat HQ to your doorstep.
How can I track my shipment?
As soon as your order ships, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a tracking link. Just click that link to see real-time updates from USPS or UPS.
Can’t find the email? Check your spam folder—or shoot us a message and we’ll resend your tracking info.
How long do I have to return an item?
We accept returns on new vinyl within 14 days, as long as it’s unopened and in original condition. If your record arrives damaged or defective, please contact us within 7 days of delivery so we can make it right.
Please note: shipping charges are non-refundable and used vinyl sales are final.
We grade our used records very conservatively, following the standard scale: Mint (M), Near Mint (NM), Very Good (VG), Good (G), and Fair (F). Every used record is fully play-tested and listened through in its entirety before we list it—no surprises, just good listening.
How do I initiate a return?
To start a return, just reply to your order confirmation email or reach out to us at orders@greycatrecords.com. Be sure to include your order number and reason for the return.
If the return is approved, we’ll send you instructions for how and where to send your item.
Please note: returns must be requested within the time frames listed in our policy and items must be shipped back in their original condition.
Product Handling
Why should I buy from Greycat Records?
Because we care as much as you do. Every record, new or used, is given our utmost attention and care. We grade conservatively, test all used vinyl from start to finish, and pack everything with the collector in mind.
We’re not just flipping wax, we’re building a space for people who live and breathe music, especially the sounds that dwell in the underground: post-punk, goth, darkwave, indie, and beyond.
Greycat Records is independent, obsessive, and proudly nocturnal. If you’re here, you get it.
Why did my purchased record arrive unsealed?
Ever wonder why your brand-new record showed up unsealed, with the vinyl outside the jacket? Don’t worry! It’s not a return nor is it a mistake.
Some records arrive from our distributors unsealed by default. This is especially common with indie labels, limited pressings, and imports.
Why? Because it’s actually a best practice to protect the outer jacket. During shipping, sealed records can shift inside their sleeves and cause seam splits, especially along the spine. By shipping the vinyl outside the jacket, but still within a protective sleeve, it helps prevent that kind of damage and preserve the condition of the record.
We’re also happy to open and separate sealed new vinyl upon request before shipping. Simply leave a note at checkout and we’ll take care of it.
How should I store my records to keep them in good condition?
Vinyl prefers a little respect and the right environment. For long-term care:
- Store records upright, never stacked. Stacking can warp or crack them over time.
- Keep them in a cool, dry place - avoid heat, humidity, and direct sunlight.
- Use outer sleeves to protect covers from shelf wear and anti-static inner sleeves to reduce dust and friction.
A well-stored record can last generations and sound just as good as the day it was pressed.
Do I need to clean my records? How often?
Yes! Cleaning your records is one of the best ways to protect both the vinyl and your stylus.
For regular play:
Use a carbon fiber or anti-static brush before and after each spin to clear away surface dust.
Handle records by the edges or label, never touch the grooves.
For deeper cleans:
Use a vinyl-safe cleaning solution and microfiber cloth, or consider a record cleaning machine if you're serious about sound quality.
Cleaning helps reduce pops, crackles, and groove wear. Your ears (and needle) will thank you.
Side Note: There is something oddly satisfying about brushing your records gently clean as they spin on your turntable. 🧽
Do you offer record cleaning products or supplies?
Yep! We carry cleaning and care products from Vinyl Styl, including anti-static brushes, cleaning solutions, and inner/outer sleeves - all handpicked to help you protect your collection.
You’ll find them in our "Other Stuff" section.
Whether you're deep cleaning dusty LPs or upgrading your sleeves, we've got you covered.
