Before Savages became a full-length statement, I Am Here was a declaration of intent, sharp, confrontational, and deliberately unwelcoming.
Released in 2012, the EP introduced the band with no interest in subtlety or compromise. These tracks arrive fully formed, rooted in post-punk minimalism and driven by urgency rather than atmosphere. There is a sense of refusal baked into the songs, a rejection of softness, polish, or emotional distance.
Basslines are rigid and forward, drums hit with martial precision, and guitars slash rather than shimmer. Jehnny Beth’s vocals are commanding and unflinching, delivered with a clarity that turns tension into purpose. Everything feels immediate and physical, built to be felt as much as heard.
I Am Here works as a line drawn in the sand. It captures Savages before expansion or affirmation entered the picture, when presence itself was the message and intensity was the point.
