Apoptygma Berzerk - Kathy's Song (Come Lie Next To Me) XXV

Twenty-five years after it first became a dark-club staple, “Kathy’s Song” returns not as a museum piece, but as material for another generation of electronic artists to reshape.

Originally appearing on Apoptygma Berzerk’s 2000 album Welcome to Earth, “Kathy’s Song (Come Lie Next To Me)” became one of the Norwegian group’s signature tracks. Its combination of Stephan Groth’s futurepop songwriting, sweeping electronics, and the distinctive computerized female vocal by Kathy Macintosh gave the song an emotional character that stood apart even during futurepop’s early-2000s peak.

Released on vinyl in 2026 for the song’s 25th anniversary, Kathy’s Song XXV approaches that legacy through four different perspectives. The Zone Tripper Remix pulls the song toward darker, heavier electronic territory, while Norwegian electronic pioneer Mental Overdrive strips it into a leaner, groove-focused form. Swedish experimental electronic group Frak provides the fourth interpretation, while the original 2000 version anchors the record and makes clear why the song has endured in the first place.

Importantly, the vinyl edition differs from the earlier digital anniversary release. The 12-inch features the Zone Tripper 12" Edit, the original 2000 version, the Mental Overdrive 12" Version, and the Frak Remix, giving the physical edition its own distinct tracklist.

This black-vinyl edition is individually numbered and limited to 777 copies worldwide, making it a particularly fitting physical celebration of one of Apoptygma Berzerk’s most enduring songs.

Kathy’s Song XXV works because it respects the original without freezing it in time. Twenty-five years later, that combination of melancholy, melody, and dancefloor momentum still sounds unmistakably like Apoptygma Berzerk.
