Released in 2021, Infinite Granite finds Deafheaven stepping away from black metal’s intensity and into a fully realized shoegaze and dream pop sound. The aggression that once defined them is replaced by restraint, clarity, and atmosphere.
Guitars still swell in layered waves, but the distortion is softened into shimmer rather than assault. Rhythms are steady and understated, allowing the songs to breathe. The production is clean and expansive, emphasizing melody and texture over density. Vocals shift from harsh delivery to a subdued, almost distant tone, blending into the mix rather than cutting through it.
Infinite Granite captures a band choosing evolution over expectation. It trades catharsis for immersion, offering a record that feels calm on the surface but emotionally heavy underneath.
