Die Spitz - Something To Consume

Vinyl, LP, Album, Limited Edition, Green

Genre(s):

  • Punk
  • Hardcore
  • Metal

Die Spitz don’t so much blur the boundaries between punk, grunge, hardcore, and metal as crash straight through them. Something To Consume is loud, restless, and gloriously difficult to pin down.

Released in 2025 on Third Man Records, Something To Consume is the debut full-length from the Austin, Texas four-piece, following a run of EPs and singles that quickly established their reputation for ferocious live performances. Rather than settling on one version of heavy music, the band pulls from punk, hardcore, grunge, alternative rock, noise rock, and metal, treating genre as something to dismantle rather than obey.

That unpredictability is built into the band itself. Die Spitz trade instruments, songwriting duties, and vocals, giving the album a volatile quality where the personality of a song can change dramatically from one track to the next. “Pop Punk Anthem (Sorry for the Delay)” moves from roiling verses into a snarling chorus, while “Throw Yourself to the Sword” hits with considerably heavier force. “American Porn,” “Red40,” “RIDING WITH MY GIRLS,” and “Punishers” keep pulling the record in different directions without breaking its momentum.

Underneath all that abrasion is a record concerned with things that consume us. Love, obsession, addiction, politics, identity, and frustration with the world outside all feed into its eleven songs. The title works on several levels, turning consumption into something emotional and cultural as much as physical.

There are recognizable touchstones in Die Spitz’s sound, from Black Sabbath and Nirvana to PJ Harvey, Pixies, and Mudhoney, but Something To Consume rarely stays in one place long enough to become straightforward revivalism. The hooks are there, sometimes surprisingly huge ones, but so are sudden eruptions of distortion, bruising riffs, and the sense that the whole thing could come apart at any moment.

Something To Consume is the sound of a young band refusing to choose a lane: heavy, confrontational, catchy, messy in all the right ways, and powered by the chemistry of four musicians pushing against one another.
