Gorillaz - The Mountain

Few Gorillaz projects feel this rooted in place.

Created from recordings and inspiration gathered during the band's journey through India, परवत (The Mountain) captures Damon Albarn and company working in a more immediate, spontaneous mode. Rather than a traditional studio album, the project feels like a travelogue filtered through the Gorillaz lens, blending field recordings, sketches, electronic experimentation, and melodic fragments into a cohesive whole.

The arrangements are often sparse and exploratory. Synths drift alongside acoustic instrumentation, rhythmic patterns emerge and dissolve, and environmental sounds become part of the music itself. The production favors atmosphere and discovery over polished pop structure, giving the record a sense of movement and curiosity.

There is a looseness to The Mountain that distinguishes it from much of the Gorillaz catalog. It feels less concerned with singles and more interested in documenting a moment, a place, and a creative process. The result is one of the project's most understated and fascinating releases, a snapshot of Gorillaz at their most exploratory and freeform.
