Following a debut as stark as Turn On The Bright Lights was never going to be easy. Antics answered by loosening the collar instead of tightening it.
Released in 2004, the album keeps Interpol’s brooding DNA intact but sharpens the hooks and quickens the pulse. Where their debut felt cavernous and distant, Antics feels more immediate and rhythm-forward, leaning into propulsion without sacrificing mood.
Basslines glide with melodic confidence, guitars chime and interlock rather than brood endlessly, and the drums drive with steady urgency. Paul Banks’ vocals remain cool and restrained, but the songwriting carries more lift, balancing tension with momentum.
Antics stands as Interpol at their most accessible without losing their edge. It refines their post-punk revival sound into something tighter and more direct, proving they could evolve without abandoning the atmosphere that defined them.
