Some records are rare because they were pressed in small numbers. Others become rare because they contain a song that defines an entire scene.
In Tension falls firmly into the second category.
Released in 2010, this four-song EP introduced many listeners to Light Asylum's unique blend of darkwave, industrial, and synth-driven post-punk. At its center is "Dark Allies," a track that has since become one of the most celebrated and enduring anthems of the modern darkwave underground. More than a decade later, it remains a staple of goth clubs, darkwave nights, and DJ sets around the world.
The music is driven by pounding electronic rhythms, stark synth lines, and Shannon Funchess' extraordinary vocal performance. Her voice shifts effortlessly between vulnerability, command, and outright catharsis, giving the songs an intensity that few contemporaries could match. Even beyond "Dark Allies," the EP captures a band arriving with a fully formed identity.
For collectors, this release occupies a special place in modern darkwave history. This EP represents the only vinyl pressing ever produced, making it the sole physical source for "Dark Allies" on wax. Copies surface infrequently, and when they do, they command significant attention.
For fans of contemporary darkwave, In Tension isn't simply a collectible record. It's the original document of a song that helped define an era.
