NNHMN - For The Comfort Of Your Exstazy (Used)

Darkwave rarely sounds this euphoric. On For The Comfort Of Your Exstazy, NNHMN turn anxiety, isolation, and existential dread into four tracks engineered for release beneath flashing lights.

Released in 2022 on Young & Cold Records, For The Comfort Of Your Exstazy finds Berlin duo Lee Margot and Michal Laudarg pushing their dark electronic sound directly toward the club. The atmosphere remains unmistakably NNHMN, sensual vocals, nocturnal synthesizers, and a persistent undercurrent of unease, but the rhythms draw heavily from techno and the ecstatic energy of early rave culture.

Opening track “Omen” sets the tone with nearly six minutes of relentless electronic propulsion. Conceived as an anti-war piece exploring the nature of evil, it pairs apocalyptic imagery with a pounding rhythm that transforms frustration into physical movement. “B.O.Y.” turns inward, exchanging political anxiety for longing and heartbreak while retaining the EP’s restless pulse.

On the second side, “Fusion Opulance” reaches furthest into the past. Inspired in part by the euphoric electronic music of the 1990s, it contrasts rave-like transcendence with lyrics addressing inequality, capitalism, and isolation. “Lovelorn” closes the record in darker territory, circling around loneliness, desire, and the seemingly endless search for connection.

That tension gives For The Comfort Of Your Exstazy its identity. NNHMN aren’t interested in escapism without consequences. The dance floor becomes somewhere to process anger, loneliness, war, economic pressure, and the strange psychological residue of the pandemic years. The beats may offer release, but darkness is never far away.

Across just four extended tracks, darkwave, minimal synth, techno, new wave, and traces of ’90s rave bleed naturally into one another. It’s a concise but particularly potent example of NNHMN’s ability to connect goth and wave aesthetics with contemporary European club music.

This 2022 Young & Cold Records edition is pressed on black vinyl and limited to 500 copies.

For The Comfort Of Your Exstazy is NNHMN at their most feverishly danceable: four songs of longing, anger, darkness, and electronic euphoria built for losing yourself when standing still no longer feels like an option.
