Thirty-six tracks. Some last minutes, others barely seconds. A Sucked Orange is Nurse With Wound at their most fragmented, absurd, and wonderfully unpredictable.

Originally released by United Dairies in 1989, A Sucked Orange sits on the more surreal side of Steven Stapleton’s vast catalog. Rather than the extended drones and slowly evolving environments heard on works like Soliloquy for Lilith, the album operates through rapid-fire miniatures: tape mutations, strange voices, industrial noise, warped fragments of melody, bizarre interruptions, and fleeting moments of unexpected beauty.

The pieces arrive and disappear before they can settle into recognizable forms. “A Precise History of Industrial Music” announces itself with characteristic Nurse With Wound humor, while titles such as “Musical Bovine Spongiform (The Mad Cow Two-Step),” “This Piano Can’t Think,” and “Dream of a Butterfly Inside the Skull of a Horse” offer some indication of the peculiar universe Stapleton is constructing. Despite its collage-like structure, the record works as more than an assortment of studio fragments. Its sequencing turns the constant disruptions into a strange logic of their own.

That makes A Sucked Orange an unusually accessible doorway into Nurse With Wound’s more anarchic side. Experimental, psychedelic, industrial, musique concrète, and outright absurdity coexist without much concern for where one ends and another begins.

This 2026 Infinite Fog reissue marks the album’s long-awaited return to vinyl as a deluxe 2LP edition in a gatefold sleeve, with the audio remastered to preserve the depth and dynamics of the original recordings. Multiple vinyl configurations were produced, including black, clear, and highly limited picture-disc editions.

A Sucked Orange remains a beautifully deranged entry in the Nurse With Wound catalog: funny, unsettling, disorienting, and capable of turning a few seconds of sound into an entire miniature nightmare.
