Rosegarden Funeral Party And Friends - Take Cover

A good cover version reveals something about both the song and the band interpreting it. On TAKE COVER, Rosegarden Funeral Party invite friends from across the dark-music underground to dismantle a collection of songs they love and rebuild them in their own image.

Released in 2022, TAKE COVER grew from Rosegarden Funeral Party’s series of collaborative cover recordings, bringing the Dallas band together with artists from the contemporary goth, post-punk, darkwave, deathrock, and industrial underground. Rather than approaching the project as a straightforward tribute album, each collaboration becomes an opportunity to push familiar material into darker and often dramatically different territory.

At the center is Leah Lane, whose commanding voice and guitar work give Rosegarden Funeral Party an immediately recognizable presence even when working with someone else’s songs. Across the record, the band’s sweeping gothic rock is reshaped by its collaborators, producing arrangements that move between atmospheric post-punk, electronic darkness, deathrock aggression, and full-scale gothic drama.

The source material reaches across generations and genres, reflecting the breadth of music feeding the modern goth scene rather than treating it as an isolated tradition. Songs associated with alternative rock, punk, new wave, and classic gothic music are pulled into the same orbit, highlighting the connections between the music that inspired Rosegarden Funeral Party and the community surrounding them today.

That collaborative spirit is what gives TAKE COVER its identity. This isn’t simply Rosegarden Funeral Party running through favorite songs between albums. It feels like a snapshot of a scene, with musicians exchanging influences and paying tribute to the records that helped shape them.

For listeners already familiar with Rosegarden Funeral Party’s original material, the collection offers another perspective on the band’s influences and versatility. For newcomers, it provides an unusually accessible doorway into both the group and the broader network of artists operating alongside them.
