Seduction and menace exist in equal measure on Fake Is Real.

Released in 2023, the second full-length from Barcelona duo SDH (Semiotics Department of Heteronyms) pushes their dark electronic sound deeper into the club, combining darkwave, synth-pop, EBM, and techno with an unmistakably sensual edge. Andrea P. Latorre and Sergi Palau create music that feels sleek and immediate without sacrificing the unease lurking beneath the surface.

Pulsing synth sequences, heavy electronic bass, and tightly programmed rhythms give the album its physical momentum, moving easily between hypnotic slow burns and tracks built squarely for the dancefloor. Latorre's vocals provide the perfect counterweight, shifting from cool detachment to vulnerability and commanding intensity as the electronics churn underneath.

Rather than simply recreating classic darkwave, Fake Is Real draws just as heavily from contemporary club music. EBM's body-moving repetition collides with techno's mechanical drive and synth-pop's melodic instincts, giving the record a distinctly modern identity.

Fake Is Real captures SDH at their most confident and seductive, a dark, sophisticated electronic record where emotional tension and dancefloor energy become inseparable.

  • Fair (F): Heavily worn or noisy—priced accordingly and sold as-is.
