Adore was the much-anticipated follow-up to the Pumpkins’ smash double album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Produced after longtime drummer Jimmy Chamberlin left the project, the 1998 follow-up possesses a more electronics-geared twitch than the heavy alt-rocking beat of their earliest efforts. Yet Billy Corgan and James Iha’s guitars still screamed when needed on electro-rock mashups like “Ava Adore”. At times reserved, at times roaring, Adore is a well-rounded, if heart-heavy reflection on death, divorce and tragedy.
